It is a statutory function of the NTA, under the Dublin Transport Authority Act 2008 and EU Regulation 1370/2007, to determine the appropriate mix of directly awarded and competitively tendered public service obligation (PSO) services.
In a direct effort to fulfil this function, the NTA conducted a competitive tender process seeking bus operators to provide services on certain routes in the Outer Dublin Metropolitan area, the Dublin Commuter area, and Waterford City which were termed Bus Market Openings (BMO) contracts.
The Transport Technology department provides the supporting technology and systems required for the operators to run these services. Including AVL and ticketing systems (on-board and back-office), and proactive support services (system monitoring, helpdesk, etc.).
