Leap Card users benefit from daily €6.40 “Cap” on Luas

Frequent users of the Luas can now benefit from Leap Card “Capping”, where the tag on/off machines automatically stop charging them after they have spent a daily €6.40, or weekly €23.50, on Luas on their Card.  The National Transport Authority is currently testing a similar scheme on Irish Rail services, which it hopes to launch in February, and testing will then commence for Capping on Dublin Bus, with a view to launching in the summer.

Multi-operator capping will be tested later this year, where a user will not be charged more than a fixed sum across all journeys made on a number of different transport operators over the course of a day, or week.

Capping delivers real benefits to people who use Leap on public transport regularly, and is one is a range of enhancements which the Authority has in development at the moment.
