Greenmount Cycling Academy are hosting FREE Pop Up Cyclocross training events throughout Limerick during Bike Week.

Greenmount Cycling Academy will ‘Pop Up’ Cyclocross tracks in various parks around Limerick during Bike Week. Signage will be in place beside the track to explain what cyclocross is and club members will attend the tracks at various times during the week to give advice and answer questions.

The pop-up tracks will be at various locations around Limerick including Mungret Park, Castletroy Neighbourhood Park, O’Briens Park, Shelbourne Park, Caherdavin Community Centre.

Friday – 17th September Inclusion Cycling 4pm Inclusion University of Limerick
  Cycle Safety and Bike Theft Prevention Event with Limerick Gardaí

On Friday 17th September 2021 local Gardaí from the Community Policing Section Henry Street will be at Arthurs Quay Park from 14.00 – 16.00 to give advice on safe cycling and bike theft prevention.

Demonstrations will be given on how to secure your bike and attach an appropriate lock.

Come visit us at Arthurs Quay Park to receive FREE bike lights, reflective items, bike bells, and more, while stocks last.

Saturday – 18th September Family Cycle – University of Limerick and Riverbank to City 12 noon Family University of Limerick
  Ballyhoura Family Mountain Biking Adventure Day

The event is a free 10km Family Mountain Bike Expedition & Picnic event that sets out to bring a parent and child pairing together for a cycle across the scenic Ballyhoura Mountain range. No previous mountain biking experience is required. It is recommended that participants are confident cycling a bike. Mountain Bikes and helmets will be provided for each of the participants as part of the event. Spaces are limited so make contact in advance to reserve a space.

The 10km route will incorporate forestry roads and dedicated mountain bike trails to add variety to the route as well as well as introducing the extensive Ballyhoura Mountain Bike trails to participants.

The day will include an introduction to mountain biking and bike safety at the meeting point. A Mountain Bike Leader will take the participants through the basic workings of the bikes and correctly size helmets and bikes for each participant. New skills will be introduced and demonstrated in a pre-prepared skills area by the start point. Basic skills such as braking, weight shifting, gearing and cornering. Basic body position will be taught to maximise balance, safety and stability.

Families – No previous mountain biking experience is required but is is recommended that participants are confident cycling a bike. Ballinaboola Car Park, Ardpatrick, Co. Limerick

 

  Lough Gur Junior Cycle Bike Week Event

The Lough Gur Junior Cycle Bike Week Event takes place on Saturday September 18th at 10.30am. Cyclists from 3 to 12 and their parents/guardians are welcome to join us.

From push bikes, to tricycles, balance bikes and those who cycle freely are all invited.

The Brown/Mountrussell Loop (17kms, 2 hours, difficult) is some technical features on it with more climbing and descending.

The White/Garrane Loop (35kms, 4 hours, difficult) is a lot more challenging in terms of distance with sections of tight turns, steep descents and features such as small rock steps, exposed roots and elevated timber boardwalks.

The Blue/Streamhill Loop (41km, 5 hrs, severe) is challenging in terms of distance but will take you to the remoter parts of the forest.

The Red/Castlepook Loop (51km, 4-6 hours, severe) that is the ultimate loop of the Ballyhoura trails, being the longest and most demanding. It goes right to the southern fringes of the forest and presents you with the biggest climbs and most rewarding descents.
