New CEO Anne Shaw will take up her position in November

Anne Shaw, new CEO of the NTAAnne Shaw has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the National Transport Authority (NTA) and will take up her position in November. The announcement was made by NTA Chairperson Peter Strachan today.

Anne Shaw is currently Executive Director of Transport for West Midlands in the UK.

Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien said: “I want to congratulate Anne on being offered this opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of public transport in Ireland.

“Anne has a proven record in delivering major public transport investments, and that experience will be invaluable to the NTA.

“I look forward to working closely with her and her team in the years ahead as we advance projects such as Connecting Ireland, BusConnects, DART+, and Metrolink — initiatives that will bring lasting benefits to communities across both rural and urban Ireland.”

NTA Chairperson Highlights Strategic Vision

Track Record of Major Achievements

Anne Shaw is a highly respected and experienced leader in the transport sector. For over 30 years she has worked in regional and local roles that have delivered vital transport systems for communities across the UK.

In 2022, she was made Executive Director of Transport for West Midlands – one of the biggest transport authorities in the UK. During this time, Anne delivered a highly successful transport strategy for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. More than one million additional visitors to the region benefited from free public transport and a seamless operation, underpinning the success of this international event.

Other notable successes during her career include:

· the introduction of the Regional Transport Co-ordination Centre, bringing together for the first time road, rail, tram and bus operations;

· securing over £6 billion of investment in public transport in the region, representing a 10-fold increase since 2017;

· delivering three new tram extensions as well as trams to Broad Street in Birmingham;

· constructed five new railway stations alongside station upgrades at Perry Barr and University in time for the Commonwealth Games; and

· worked with national government to make the network safer and more accessible as the first ever transport champion for Violence Against Women and Girls.

At the heart of her work is the belief that public transport is a right not a privilege. It has a vital role to play in connecting our communities to family and friends; jobs and colleges; and opportunities that can help everyone get on in life.
