Public Consultation Opens on Proposed Bus Service Enhancements Between Cavan and Longford

The consultation invites feedback on a new seven-day-a-week service connecting Longford to Cavan

10 November 2025

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has launched a public consultation on proposed enhancements to bus services between Longford and Cavan, aimed at improving connectivity and accessibility for communities along the corridor.

Proposals for a new seven-day service

The consultation, which runs until Sunday, 7th December, invites feedback from residents, commuters, and stakeholders on a new seven day week service connecting Longford to Cavan via Cloondara, Termonbarry, Roosky, Dromod, Mohill, Carrigallen, Killeshandra, and Crossdoney.

The new route is designed to restore and enhance public transport access for these areas, following a license amendment to Expressway Route 23.

The service will operate a minimum of 3 to 4 services per day in each direction, including morning and evening peak-time journeys.

Improved integration with regional and local transport is a key feature of the proposal, with enhanced connections to bus and train services at Longford and Dromod Train Stations, and Cavan Bus Station.

In addition to improving daily travel for residents, the proposed route supports tourism in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands by creating a new local connection within the region.

The new services will connect seamlessly with the TFI Go app, enabling convenient journey planning and cashless payments are available through the Leap Card Scheme. Free Travel Passes will also be valid on the route.

Furthermore, the NTA is focused on introducing modern, accessible vehicles and enhancing bus stops to provide greater comfort and accessibility for all passengers while also working closely with the Local Authorities to improve stop infrastructure along the corridor.

Have your say

Getting the community involved is key to shaping these changes, and the NTA is encouraging communities along the corridor to share their thoughts.
