Card commemorating 1916 centenary is on sale from today: www.leapcard.ie
A new, promotional Leap Family Card was launched today by the National Transport Authority. Costing only €10, the Leap Family Card gives a family of two adults and up to four children (aged 18 or under) 24-hours unlimited travel in and around the Greater Dublin Area on Dublin Bus, Luas, Bus Éireann, DART and commuter rail.
“The €10 Leap Family Card offers outstanding value to families who want to make a few day trips together in our Capital City region over the coming 1916 commemorations, or indeed any time in 2016, as the cards can be used for a single day of travel right up to December 31st, said Anne Graham, CEO of the National Transport Authority.
The potential savings for families are very attractive, even if just to catch the bus in and out of town. Depending on how much a family uses public transport during the day, their savings could range from a few Euro up to 20 Euro or more.
“We’ve devised this specially-designed limited edition Leap Family Card to mark this very special centenary year. We hope that more families will chose to use public transport when they’re out and about together, enjoying historic commemorative sites all over Dublin, from the GPO to Kilmainham Gaol to Glasnevin Cemetery. Only 50,000 Leap Family Cards are being made available, two Family Cards are available per order, and when they’re gone, they’re gone”, continued Anne Graham.
She added that the Authority would be assessing the take-up and usage of the Leap Family Cards, with a view to possibly developing a more permanent Family offering with Leap in the future, but that the €10-price-point was a special one-off, and that the specially designed commemorative cards could become collectors’ items or keepsakes from the centenary.
Some cost comparisons:
- The €10 Leap Family Card (2 X adult + 4 X children) costs the same as one Adult’s daily travel Cap.
- It is valid across all travel modes in the Greater Dublin Area, and is €4 cheaper than the Dublin Bus one-day Family rambler (€14) and €10 cheaper than the Irish Rail equivalent (€20)
- *Lower savings example: eg 2 adults and 2 children travelling from Lucan taking a return bus trip to the city centre on a Saturday using regular Leap Cards would pay €14.80, or €18.80 in cash. So, a Leap family saves €4.80, and a cash family saves €8.80 with the Leap Family Card. NB – Additional trips (bus, DART, Luas, train) in and around town on the same day are ‘free’ with the Leap Family Card.
- *Higher savings example: eg 2 adults and 4 children travelling from Greystones by rail return to the city centre on a Saturday using regular Leap Cards would pay €33.80. So, a Leap family saves €23.80, and a cash family saves €33.20 with the Leap Family Card. NB – Additional trips (bus, DART, Luas, train) in and around town on the same day are ‘free’ with the Leap Family Card.
