NTA Announces Consultation on Enhanced Bus Services for Growing Clonburris Area

The consultation will run until 5pm on 21st August.

8 July 2026

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has today launched a public consultation on proposed new and enhanced bus services to support the growing communities of Clonburris.

With plans for up to 9,500 new homes and a projected population of approximately 23,000 people, Clonburris is one of the fastest-growing areas in the country. These proposals are designed to complement the BusConnects Network Redesign while ensuring that public transport provision keeps pace with development in the area.

Under the proposals, the NTA plans to introduce three new routes serving Clonburris, Adamstown and surrounding areas.

The L70 route will run between Adamstown and Red Cow Luas, improving coverage in currently underserved areas and strengthening connections across Adamstown and Clonburris. It will serve Heron’s Lock, the Grange Castle employment hub, and connect to Kishoge and Clondalkin Fonthill rail stations via Thomas Omer Way, before continuing through Clondalkin Village.

The L71 route will serve the eastern part of Clonburris via South Link Street and reintroduce services to Adamstown Avenue using existing bus lanes. It will improve access to Kishoge and Clondalkin Fonthill rail stations and operate via Ninth Lock Road to Clondalkin and Red Cow.

Route 77 will provide a high-frequency direct link from Adamstown and Clonburris to Dublin City Centre. Running through Clonburris along South Link Street, it will enhance public transport options and support connections with existing and planned orbital routes.

It is envisaged that the minimum level of weekday off-peak service will see both the L70 and L71 operating every 30 minutes, while Route 77 will run every 15 minutes. Service frequency may vary during peak periods and at weekends.

Passengers will continue to be able to use Leap Cards and Free Travel Passes, and services will remain fully integrated with the TFI Live App, enabling real-time journey planning and service updates.

Public feedback is a key part of this process. The NTA is encouraging residents, commuters and stakeholders to review the proposals and share their views to help shape the final design of services to meet the needs of the community.

The consultation will run until 5pm on 21st August.
