NTA launches public consultation to enhance Navan-Dublin bus corridor

Proposals to Increase Peak Services on NX Route by 24%

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has today launched a public consultation on proposed enhancements to the NX bus service, which operates along the Navan–Dublin corridor.

The consultation, which runs until 5.00pm on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, invites feedback from passengers, residents, businesses, and other stakeholders on proposals aimed at improving capacity, reliability, and overall passenger experience on the route.

Operated by Bus Éireann, the NX provides key connections for passengers to the city centre for work, leisure and appointments.

24% increase in peak-time service levels

Under the proposals, passengers would benefit from a 24% increase in peak-time service levels, alongside a range of operational and routing improvements.

The Proposals

  • The proposals includethe introduction of additional early morning weekday departures at 05:00 and 05:20 between Navan and Dublin.
  • Peak-period services would be enhanced to run approximately every 15 minutes,
  • with departures operating from Navan to Dublin between 06:30 and 08:00, and from Dublin to Navan between 16:00 and 17:30.

Adjustments needed to facilitate enhancements

To facilitate these changes, a number of city centre routing, stop, and terminus adjustments are proposed, including relocating the terminus from Wilton Terrace to Moss Street, revising certain departure and termination points, removing select stops to reduce congestion, and enhancing interchange opportunities with DART and city bus services.

Continue with Leap Cards, Free Travel Pass and integrated with TFI Live App

Passengers will continue to be able to use Leap Cards and Free Travel Passes, and services will remain fully integrated with the TFI Live App, enabling real-time journey planning and service updates.

Essential public feedback

Public feedback is essential to ensure that the proposed service enhancements respond to the needs of communities along the Navan–Dublin corridor. The NTA encourages all interested parties to review the proposals and participate in the consultation process.

Subject to funding approval and operator readiness, the NTA intends to implement the proposed service enhancements in Q3 2026.

Addressing current and future transport needs in the Navan area

The NX consultation forms part of a wider programme of investment across the TFI public transport network to address current and future transport needs in the Navan area. This follows the recent launch by Iarnród Éireann of a public consultation on the emerging preferred route for the Navan Rail Line, highlighting continued progress on improving sustainable transport options for the region.
