NTA to extend Local Link to provide evening services

Pilot project will get under way in June

NTA has announced that 50 new services providing evening and night time services in rural areas, have been given the green light.

The NTA decided to proceed with a pilot project and applications for proposals to deliver evening and night-time services were invited from Local Link offices, following a process of consultation with Local Link offices nationally.

Of the 17 Local Link offices across the country, 12 submitted applications for funding, and all were approved:-

  • Local Link Carlow Kilkenny Wicklow;
  • Local Link Cavan Monaghan;
  • Local Link Cork;
  • Local Link Donegal;
  • Local Link Kerry;
  • Local Link Kildare;
  • Local Link Laois Offaly;
  • Local Link Longford Westmeath;
  • Louth Meath Fingal;
  • Local Link Tipperary;
  • Local Link Waterford; and
  • Local Link Wexford.

In all 50 services were approved for funding comprising 20 extensions to existing regular public transport services and 30 demand responsive services.  Together they will provide 188 new trips per week across 19 counties in the evening and night-time.
