The National Transport Authority (NTA) has today published the results of its consultation on proposed improvements to the NX bus service between Navan and Dublin city centre.
Growing demand and service challenges
The NX service currently carries more than 20,000 passenger journeys each week and has experienced significant growth since it was introduced in 2017. However, increasing demand, capacity constraints and traffic congestion have impacted reliability, particularly during peak periods.
Revised timetable and increased frequency
Following the consultation, the NTA will proceed with a revised timetable that will introduce two new early morning departures from Navan, increase peak-time frequency from every 20 minutes to approximately every 15 minutes, giving a 24% increase in peak service levels.
New city centre terminus and improved reliability
The changes will also see the NX route operate to a new Dublin city centre terminus at Moss Street, close to Tara Street Station, providing connections with DART, commuter rail and city bus services. The service will no longer operate via Westland Row, Merrion Square and Wilton Terrace, helping to reduce delays caused by city centre congestion and improve overall reliability.
Consultation response and implementation
A total of 81 submissions were received, with strong support for increased capacity, more frequent services and improved reliability. The revised timetable is expected to be introduced from 11 October. Full timetable details will be published in advance of implementation, and customer information channels will be updated to support passengers as the changes are introduced.
