Planning approval for Second BusConnects Core Bus Corridor Scheme for Dublin

Clongriffin to City Centre Core Bus Corridor Scheme receives planning approval

11 January 2024

The Department of Transport and the National Transport Authority (NTA) have today received notification of planning approval by An Bord Pleanála, for the Clongriffin to City Centre Core Bus Corridor Scheme.

BusConnects Dublin Programme

This follows recent planning approval for the first Core Bus Corridor Scheme from Liffey Valley to City Centre, with both Schemes forming part of the BusConnects Dublin Programme.

Enhanced cycle facilities and high quality public realm upgrades

The NTA will now move to the implementation phase of this important piece of transport infrastructure, in this case in the north of Dublin city, which will provide a step-change in bus services, develop significantly enhanced cycle facilities and introduce high quality public realm upgrades.

The scheme will progress with the continued support of the Department of Transport, our local authority partner Dublin City Council, and continued engagement with all of our stakeholders.

Vital piece of infrastructure

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan says: “This is the second BusConnects Core Bus Corridor Scheme to be approved by An Bord Pleanála in recent weeks.

“This vital piece of infrastructure, when constructed, will transform bus services along this corridor in North Dublin, allowing passengers to get to their destinations quicker and more conveniently without being impacted by traffic congestion.”

Anne Graham, CEO of the NTA says: “We welcome this decision from An Bord Pleanála and the careful consideration that has been given to the proposals.

“This approval will allow us to provide significantly enhanced, high quality and reliable bus services, cycling and walking facilities along the Clongriffin to City Centre Core Bus Corridor”.
