TFI launches Anti-Racism Campaign in partnership with the Immigrant Council of Ireland

15 March 2022

Transport for Ireland (TFI) in partnership with the Immigrant Council of Ireland (ICI), public transport operators and Dublin City Council (DCC) has launched its annual anti-racism campaign to promote the message that public transport is for everyone. This year TFI is supporting the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on 21st March.

The campaign follows on from last year’s campaign in celebrating the growing diversity within Ireland’s public transport services and aims to ensure people of all backgrounds, cultures and beliefs are treated with the respect they deserve. In addition to social media, the campaign creative will be visible on-board public transport vehicles, at stops and in stations across the TFI public transport network. Operators involved include Bus Éireann, Dublin Bus, Go-Ahead Ireland, Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail, Luas, TFI Local Link and Taxi.

As part of the 2022 campaign, TFI is again partnering with ‘Humans of Dublin’ to spotlight staff from public transport operators around the country and ask them the question ‘What does diversity mean to you?’. Every day for a week, starting on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on 21st March one of their portraits and stories will be posted on their Instagram account @humansofdub.

Be an ally against racism

Racism can take many forms. It usually takes on a threatening, abusive or insulting form but can also be disguised as a joke or ‘a little bit of craic’. It can happen anywhere, including work, school, in or near your home, on public transport or in the street.

What should you do if you see someone being racially abused in a public space? The Immigrant Council of Ireland have created resources to help advise people on what to do if they see an incidence of racism. For advice on how to be an ally against racism visit their website.
