National Transport Authority (NTA) has allocated funds to Ireland’s local authorities with a view to spending on walking and cycling infrastructure in 2024.
This substantial investment will fund approximately 800 Active Travel projects, contributing to the development of 1,000km of new and improved walking and cycling infrastructure across the country between 2020 and 2025, a key target included in a number of Government Climate and Road Safety Strategies. Total expenditure on NTA Active Travel funded project since 2020 will exceed €1Billion during 2024, with over 600km delivered to date.
This includes the development of segregated cycle lanes and widened footpaths, new walking and cycling bridges, and new pedestrian crossings.
