NTA Publishes Public Service Obligation Contracts Annual Performance Report 2024

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has today published its Public Service Obligation Contracts Annual Performance Report 2024, highlighting a record-breaking year for public transport in Ireland. Passenger journeys reached 343.6 million, an increase of 10.6% on 2023, driven by new and enhanced services across bus and rail networks.

Key developments included the launch of Dublin’s BusConnects N2 route, a public consultation took place on a proposed Letterkenny Town Bus Service, and improved rail connectivity with hourly Enterprise services between Dublin and Belfast. The year also saw the commencement of new Direct Award Contracts for Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann, which will run until 2029, alongside progress on BusConnects redesigns for Cork, Limerick, Galway, and Waterford.

While challenges such as congestion and resource shortages impacted punctuality and reliability, operators made significant strides in recruitment and service delivery. The NTA reaffirmed its commitment to improving performance and passenger experience, supported by initiatives like the new Transport for Ireland Consolidated Contact Centre and continued investment in infrastructure and fleet expansion.
