Highlighting Major Service Improvements

NTA Publishes 2024 Bus and Rail Statistics Bulletin Highlighting Major Service Improvements

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has published its 2024 Bus and Rail Statistics Bulletin, outlining a year of significant progress in service delivery and infrastructure.

Key developments included the rollout of the N2 in Dublin under the BusConnects programme, expanded intercity rail timetables with new early and late services, and the opening of Kishogue Station to improve commuter connectivity.

Public transport in Ireland reached a historic milestone in 2024, with 343.6 million passenger journeys recorded across PSO bus, rail, and light rail services, marking a 10.6% increase on 2023 and 16.6% above pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

The Connecting Ireland programme continued to transform rural mobility, introducing 45 new or enhanced routes nationwide under Phase 3 of the plan. Investment in fleet modernisation also advanced, with growing numbers of hybrid and electric buses entering service and 41 new Intercity Railcar carriages boosting capacity on key routes.

These measures underline the NTA’s commitment to sustainable, accessible, and high-quality public transport across Ireland.
