The Service Planning team has identified many deficits in public transport provided today in rural Ireland. We have proposed a programme of service revisions and introductions to be implemented over the next 5 years starting in 2022 that will transform the public transport offer and experience in many towns, villages, and townlands across the country. The programme is called Connecting Ireland, and the Authority has received an additional €5.6m in Public Service Obligation (PSO) funding to implement the first tranche of these proposals. To be effective, complementary improvements in providing professionally equipped bus stops including shelter, passenger information, integrated fares and tickets to improve passenger convenience and interchange facilities at hub towns, villages and rail stations at which a level of interchange is designed to occur are also required throughout the public transport network proposed, and these improvements will be achieved by programmes in other sections of the Authority.
