TFI Local Link services across Carlow, Kilkenny and Wicklow will now offer contactless payment options to passengers as part of the latest phase of the National Transport Authority’s nationwide programme. Customers can make payments using debit or credit cards, as well as digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, allowing for easier and more convenient journeys.
Building on successful rollout
The implementation of contactless payment across Carlow, Kilkenny and Wicklow follows a successful pilot programme in Cavan and Monaghan and builds on recent expansions to other TFI Local Link service areas, including Louth, Meath, Fingal, Limerick, Clare, Longford, Westmeath and Roscommon. This continued expansion reflects positive customer feedback and the NTA’s commitment to providing modern, user-friendly payment options for those travelling on rural and regional public transport services.
Contactless payment is currently available for single-journey fares. Daily and weekly fare products remain available through the Leap website and the TFI Leap Top-Up App. TFI Leap cards, cash payments and Free Travel Cards continue to be accepted across all eligible TFI Local Link services.
The initiative forms part of the NTA’s ongoing work to modernise public transport fare systems nationwide, with a focus on improving accessibility and enhancing the passenger experience in rural and regional communities.
