BusConnects Galway is part of the National Transport Authority’s programme to transform bus services and improve sustainable transport infrastructure across Ireland’s cities.
The programme combines improvements to bus services with enhanced facilities for walking and cycling.
Bus Network Redesign
A redesigned bus network for Galway was published in 2023 following extensive public consultation. The new network aims to deliver:
- Approximately 50% more bus services across Galway City, Bearna and Oranmore.
- Expanded services to new residential and employment areas.
- More frequent services throughout the day and at weekends.
- A new 24 hour cross city route.
- Improved interchange opportunities centred on Eyre Square.
- Simpler and more integrated public transport connections.

Sustainable Transport Corridors:
BusConnects Cork is progressing on the delivery of the Sustainable Transport Corridors(STCs) element of the BusConnects Cork programme. The Sustainable Transport Corridors will be along key bus routes in the city and will have dedicated bus lanes/bus priority, with improved cycling and pedestrian facilities.
Alongside the bus network redesign, BusConnects Galway is progressing major transport corridor projects that will provide:
- Bus priority measures.
- Improved cycling infrastructure.
- Enhanced pedestrian facilities.
- Better access to key destinations across the city.
