BusConnects Cork

BusConnects Cork is a major investment in Cork’s sustainable transport system and aims to provide a better, more reliable bus service for everyone.

Elements of BusConnects Cork

New Bus Network:

Cork’s new bus network will involve the creation of new bus routes and improved bus frequencies to help transform the public transport network to meet anticipated growth and future demand in the region. The new network will be implemented on a phased basis, subject to funding and operational readiness.

Key benefits of the new  network include:

  • An overall increase of 53% in bus services in Cork;
  • Two 24-hour bus services;
  • Seven all-day high frequency bus routes (services running every 15 minutes or better) more during peak periods;
  • Provision of bus services to previously unserved areas such as Upper Glanmire, Waterfall, Kerry Pike;
  • Shorter waits and more direct routes for many people;
  • A simpler network and schedules; and
  • Additional services at weekends.

Sustainable Transport Corridors:

BusConnects Cork is progressing on the delivery of the Sustainable Transport Corridors(STCs) element of the BusConnects Cork programme. The Sustainable Transport Corridors will be along key bus routes in the city and will have dedicated bus lanes/bus priority, with improved cycling and pedestrian facilities.

To date, three rounds of non-statutory public consultation have taken place on the STCs, with each round requiring extensive public engagement.  The STCs that have been the subject of non-statutory public consultation have been combined into three standalone Proposed Schemes.

Statutory Consent Applications for the three standalone Proposed Schemes will be submitted to An Coimisiún Pleanála for its consideration and determination.
