Cork Area Commuter Rail (CACR)
The Cork Area Commuter Rail (CACR) programme is the largest investment ever made in Cork’s rail network.
The programme will enhance the heavy rail network across the region, ultimately providing a 10-minute frequency on lines connecting Mallow, Cork, Cobh, and Midleton. The programme includes electrification, new trains, upgraded signalling, eight new stations, and Park & Ride facilities — all designed to create a greener, more connected city-region.
Delivered across two phases, the programme is already underway.
Phase 1 includes key infrastructure upgrades, with the new through-running platform at Kent Station now in operation and further works progressing. Phase 1 is part funded by the EU Recovery and Resilance Facility (RRF).
Phase 2 builds on these upgrades through the introduction of electrified rolling stock, further network enhancements, and the delivery of additional stations to expand access to the rail network.
Delivery of Blackpool Station and Dunkettle Park & Ride is being accelerated to realise early benefits of the programme to the region.
