MetroLink is Ireland’s twenty-first century transformation, a mega-project to create a reliable, high-capacity, sustainable public transport system.
MetroLink will tackle the challenge of Dublin as the third-most congested city in Europe, and the 11th-most congested in the world.
While existing public transport options across Dublin are reaching capacity and the M50 motorway is similarly constrained, MetroLink will improve connectivity, reduce congestion and emissions, and improve quality of life for current and future generations.
This Detailed Business Case marks an important point in the evolution of the MetroLink Programme. The Programme now has a confirmed and operative Railway Order, providing the statutory certainty required to move confidently from planning into delivery. This is a critical milestone and reflects many years of detailed design, rigorous assessment and sustained engagement with communities, stakeholders and statutory bodies.
