Waterford Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy (WMATS)

WATERFORD METROPOLITAN AREA TRANSPORT STRATEGY

The National Transport Authority has published the Waterford Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy (WMATS).

This Strategy sets the framework for an accessible, high-quality and integrated transport network that provides for the travel demand and supports the sustainable growth of the Waterford Metropolitan Area as a major growth engine of the Southern Region, and an internationally competitive European city region as envisaged by the National Planning Framework 2040.

WMATS was prepared by the NTA in collaboration with Waterford City and County Council, Kilkenny County Council, the Southern Regional Assembly and Transport Infrastructure Ireland.  The Draft Strategy, which was subject to extensive appraisal and assessment throughout its development, was published for public consultation in mid-2022.  The feedback received during that process has informed the finalisation of the Strategy.

The final report, which is available below along with a suite of supporting documents, represents a comprehensive response to the current and future transport needs of the Waterford Metropolitan Area for the strategy period, based on a high level of technical and policy-based analysis, and input from key stakeholders and the public.
