National Household Travel Survey

The NTA carries out a Household Travel Survey every year / annually as Action 69, Goal 8 of the government of Ireland’s
Sustainable Mobility Policy, to support the development of its Regional Models. From 2023 this will be an annual survey. The survey is designed to provide a comprehensive picture of the daily travel patterns of Irish residents.

Appraisal Toolkit - EconomyDetails on the NTA’s most recent National Household Travel Survey in 2022 was released in Q3 2023. The NTA extends its sincere thanks to all the people who very generously gave of their time to participate in the survey and fill in the household questionnaire and travel diaries.

The household travel data provided is of tremendous use for transport modelling, planning and investment all of which is aimed at improving Ireland’s transport system and reducing our CO2 emissions.
