Active Travel End of Year Video 2024
With over 160 new Active Travel projects delivered in 2024, from improved footpaths and segregated cycle lanes, to pedestrian footbridges and crossings, these projects are connecting communities and making active travel safer for everyone—whether you walk, wheel or cycle.
Navan 2030: Enhancing Accessibility and Sustainable Mobility in Navan Town Centre
The Navan 2030 plan is a major public transport and urban realm initiative delivered by @Meath County Council in collaboration with the National Transport Authority and the @Department of Transport. The project has delivered substantial improvements to the town’s transport infrastructure, pedestrian environment, and overall accessibility.
Key outcomes include:
- A new central bus interchange on Kennedy Road.
- Over 50 new wheelchair-accessible bus stops and upgrades to 13 existing stops.
- Traffic management changes to improve bus reliability and reduce congestion.
- Footpath widening and reallocation of road space to prioritise walking.
- Upgraded laneways and junctions to support safe and inclusive access.
- A significant increase in public transport usage, with town bus passenger numbers rising from 2,800 to over 30,000 per month.
- 95% user satisfaction with the new bus interchange, with particularly high ratings for safety, accessibility, and the quality of the public realm.
The scheme has addressed long-standing challenges in Navan’s transport network, creating a more connected, accessible and user-friendly town centre that supports active travel and public transport use.
Whether you walk, wheel, or cycle, start your day, the Active Travel way.
